Loraine James
Loraine James
Loraine James, a North London native, developed a passion for music while growing up on Enfield's vibrant Alma Estate. Influenced by her mother's diverse music taste, she immersed herself in various genres, eventually mastering piano and self-teaching electronic music production.
Her unique sound emerged and garnered global acclaim through releases like "Detail" and her acclaimed albums "For You & I" and "Reflection" on Hyperdub, praised for their vital narratives that accurately portrayed her reality as an independent queer, Black, British artist. Following that, she explored another path entirely, adopting the moniker Whatever The Weather for her math rock and ambient music-inspired Ghostly International debut. Loraine's third album, "Gentle Confrontation," signifies a new chapter where she reflects on her past while embracing her present. With an experimental and ever-evolving approach, Loraine captivates with vulnerability, curiosity, and hope.
